The pattern is clear. Every 1080p release shares one transfer, and every 4K release shares another. The case and extras change. The picture does not.
Three things change, and all three favor the 4K disc.
Picture. The 1080p discs use a VC-1 encode at about 21 Mbps. The 4K disc uses an HEVC encode at about 71 Mbps, in native 4K with HDR10.
Frame. The 1080p discs fill a 1.78:1 widescreen frame. The 4K disc keeps the film's original 1.85:1 ratio, so you see the framing as it was shot.
Sound. The 1080p discs carry Dolby TrueHD 5.1. The 4K disc adds a Dolby Atmos track with a TrueHD 7.1 core.
If you watch on a 1080p TV, the Blu-ray inside the 4K box may be the same older transfer. The real gains need a 4K player and a 4K TV.
Beetlejuice has had SteelBooks in several countries, including an Italian 4K SteelBook in October 2024. Its 4K disc is listed as region free, but its Blu-ray copy is Region B. A US player may not read that Blu-ray.
That region note applies to most imports. Blu-ray discs are often region-coded, while 4K discs are almost always region free. Check both lines on the listing before you import.
