How to read these listings
Asking prices are not sale prices. Open eBay’s search. Select Sold items in the filters. Find several recent sales of one tape. Match the edition first.
Then match its condition and format. Add shipping to the total. An unsold item is not a sale. A crossed-out price may hide a lower accepted offer.
Leave mixed lots and outliers out of that check. Match the case number to the cassette. Read the label and check the artwork. For a sealed copy, check the wrap too.
Ask for a photo of any mark you cannot see. Check box wear apart from tape damage. Ask if the tape was played if you want a viewing copy. A search hit does not confirm the issue.
FAQ
Are sealed VHS tapes worth more?
CGC reports that intact sealed tapes attract collectors who want to preserve them, because many original buyers opened their copies. That does not set a premium for every sealed tape; compare completed sales of the same issue and condition.
Why do sellers show marks on the plastic wrap?
Heritage's lot headings list watermarks and seal overlaps, which is why sellers show them. A photo of a mark does not prove the seal is original.
What is a VHS grading holder?
CGC describes its holder as a protective case around the collectible, with a label identifying it and its condition grades. Its grading guide distinguishes the item's condition from its seal condition. A holder records an assessment, not a guaranteed sale price.
Do ordinary used VHS tapes sell?
WDW Magazine discusses selling common Disney tapes in lots rather than treating each as a special auction copy. Check recent Sold items for comparable used tapes or lots, including shipping; these sealed-edition examples do not price an opened household collection.
