The Transformers: The Movie 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray is the older two-disc 1080p set.

The High-Def Digest 4K calendar also lists the 40th Anniversary SteelBook for November 17, 2026.
The 4K discs list a native 4K picture at about 74 Mbps, with both Dolby Vision and HDR10. The 2016 Blu-ray is 1080p at about 35 Mbps. For hand-drawn animation, the higher bitrate helps keep line work and flat colors clean.
Audio is close across the 2016 to 2021 editions. Each lists DTS-HD Master Audio in 5.1 and 2.0. The 40th Anniversary SteelBook is the first listed with a Dolby Atmos track.
The 4K disc is region free. The Blu-ray copy in the 4K sets is Region A, which suits US players.
Every Shout Factory edition lists two presentations: 1.33:1 and 1.85:1. Blu-ray.com lists 1.85:1 as the original theatrical ratio. The 1.33:1 version is a taller, squarer frame that fits an old 4:3 TV.
Neither is wrong, and the disc lets you pick. Choose 1.85:1 to match the theater run, or 1.33:1 for the squarer frame.
Wait if you want the Dolby Atmos track or the new SteelBook. Skip the wait if you just want the best picture, since the 40th Anniversary set lists the same 4K video specs as the 2021 discs.

Shout Factory's 2021 announcement listed a large set of extras for the 35th Anniversary editions. It named new feature-length storyboards with deleted, alternate and extended sequences. It also named a featurette from a Fathom Events 30th Anniversary screening, with acoustic performances of "The Touch" and "Dare" by Stan Bush.
The set also carries 'Til All Are One, a documentary looking back at the film with members of the cast and crew. Story consultant Flint Dille and voice actors Gregg Berger and Neil Ross take part. For the 40th Anniversary SteelBook, Transformers.tv lists a commentary with director Nelson Shin, Flint Dille and voice director Susan Blu among the legacy features.
If extras matter to you, the 2021 4K set already covers most of them. Check the 40th listing for anything new before you upgrade.
The 4K sets pair the 4K disc with a Blu-ray. Per Shout Factory's announcement, that Blu-ray carries the HD full-frame version, while the 4K disc carries the new widescreen transfer. If you want widescreen in high definition, play the 4K disc.
Owners without a 4K player should weigh this. The 35th Anniversary Blu-ray + DVD also puts full frame on the Blu-ray, with widescreen on the DVD only.
