Looking up 2025 movie release dates usually means one of two things. You want to know when a film opened in theaters, or you want to know when you could finally buy it on disc. This page gives you both dates for 70 of the year's biggest wide releases.

2025 movie release dates for the year's major films are listed below by month, with the US theater date and the US disc street date side by side. Across these 70 titles, the disc arrived a median of 81 days after the theater date.

How to read these 2025 movie release dates

Each line shows three things. First is the date the film opened wide in US theaters. Second is the US street date for the physical disc. Last come the disc formats, as the source lists them.

Theater dates come from Wikipedia's list of American films of 2025. That list cites trade press for each date. Disc dates and formats come from the monthly pages at DVDsReleaseDates.com. We checked both on September 25, 2026.

We picked wide releases from the major studios and the larger independents. Streaming-first films are left out, since most never get a disc. A small film with a short run may not appear here.

A format list can be short when a store sold one edition first. For example, a line may show "DVD, 4K" when a Blu-ray copy may still sit inside the 4K box. Check the product page for the edition you want.

What the 2025 dates show about the disc window

Line up the two dates for all 70 titles and a clear pattern shows. The median gap from theater to disc was 81 days. That is just under 12 weeks. The middle half of the list landed between 67 and 95 days.

The quickest title here reached disc 53 days after its theater date. The slowest took 151 days. Most big studio films sat close to the middle. So if a 2026 film opens this week, a disc about three months out is a fair first guess. Treat that as a rough guide only, and wait for a studio to name a street date.

Timing also shifted with the season. Several late-year films took longer to reach disc. One Battle After Another opened in late September and reached disc in late January. Avatar: Fire and Ash opened in mid-December and reached disc in May. Many summer films moved faster, often in about ten weeks.

Which formats 2025 films shipped on

Most big 2025 films had a 4K disc. Sixty of the 70 titles here list a 4K edition. Sixty-five list a DVD, and 62 list a Blu-ray.

The films without a 4K disc lean toward family, comedy and drama titles. Examples include Dog Man, Heart Eyes, Smurfs and Gabby's Dollhouse: The Movie. Action, horror and effects-heavy titles almost always got a 4K release.

Theater date versus digital date versus disc date

A film now reaches homes in steps. It opens in theaters. A few weeks later it often appears to buy or rent on digital stores. The disc comes after that.

Where to check 2025 titles that are not listed

This list covers 70 major wide releases, not every film of the year. For any other title, search the exact film name plus "Blu-ray release date." Then confirm the date on a studio press page or a large store's product page.

If a 2025 film still has no disc date a year after it opened, it may never get one. Streaming-first films often skip disc. Some smaller films only reach disc through a boutique label later on.
