Twilight Time Blu-ray: Seven Editions and How to Spot Them

Twilight Time released Blu-rays in limited runs, and several films later returned in other editions. These seven checks identify the named pressing by its barcode, packaging and disc extras.

ComingSoon reported the original company's June 2020 closure. Screen Archives acquired its back catalog and inventory effective July 1, 2020, with the label continuing (Wikipedia). Runs were often 3,000 copies; The Blob's catalog entry lists 5,000.

Fright Night: 1985 film, original Twilight Time Blu-ray

• The first Twilight Time Fright Night Blu-ray arrived on December 13, 2011. Blu-ray.com marks its 3,000-copy run sold out.

• Its barcode is 851789003122, with a booklet and an isolated track of Brad Fiedel's score. A photo of the back cover helps distinguish it from generic Sony listings.

• The 30th Anniversary Special Edition followed on January 20, 2015 as a separate 5,000-copy run (Blu-ray.com). An anniversary claim in a seller's title points to that later pressing.

The Blob: 1988 film, Twilight Time Blu-ray

• Blu-ray.com lists the October 14, 2014 Twilight Time disc of the 1988 film as limited to 5,000 and sold out.

• UPC 811956020161 identifies this pressing. Its booklet, Chuck Russell commentary and isolated score are useful checks when the cover or listing title is unclear.

• The box mixes editions. Cultsploitation reviews the later Scream Factory Collector's Edition, with additional extras but no new transfer; do not count that as a Twilight Time copy.

Christine: 1983 film, Twilight Time Blu-ray

• Christine's March 12, 2013 Twilight Time Blu-ray is marked limited to 3,000, sold out at Blu-ray.com. Check UPC 851789003436.

• The disc includes John Carpenter and Keith Gordon's commentary, deleted scenes and an isolated score. A booklet belongs with this Twilight Time package.

• Sony's 35th Anniversary 4K + Blu-ray SteelBook came out in September 2018 (Blu-ray.com). This box is mixed; a Sony SteelBook or its loose Blu-ray is not the 2013 Twilight Time pressing.

Body Double: 1984 film, Twilight Time Blu-ray

• The August 13, 2013 Body Double Blu-ray at Blu-ray.com is Twilight Time's 3,000-copy, sold-out release, UPC 851789003566.

• A booklet and an isolated track of Pino Donaggio's music are part of this edition. Ask for the booklet in the photos if package completeness matters to you.

• Sony's October 2016 Choice Collection Blu-ray uses a recordable BD-R disc (Blu-ray.com). The strip includes mixed releases, so compare the Twilight Time barcode before choosing a blue-case copy.

The Egyptian: 1954 film, Twilight Time Blu-ray

• Blu-ray.com lists Twilight Time's July 12, 2011 Blu-ray with UPC 851789003054. That is the Blu-ray barcode to compare with the case.

• The catalog marks this edition limited to 3,000 and sold out, and shows a booklet in the package. A sealed case still needs a readable barcode photo.

• Alain Silver and James Ursini provide the commentary; a separate audio track isolates Bernard Herrmann and Alfred Newman's score. These are the disc's listed supplements, rather than assumed extras from a DVD.

Enemy Mine: 1985 film, Twilight Time Blu-ray

• Enemy Mine's Twilight Time edition is dated October 9, 2012 at Blu-ray.com, which labels the 3,000-copy pressing sold out.

• Find 851789003313 on the back cover. The catalog lists a single Blu-ray disc, so an Enemy Mine DVD or a combined-film set does not match this package.

• The case contains a booklet, and the audio options include an isolated track of Maurice Jarre's score. Confirm the insert is present when comparing otherwise similar copies.

The Train: 1964 film, original Twilight Time Blu-ray

• Blu-ray.com dates the original Twilight Time disc to June 10, 2014, with a 3,000-copy, sold-out run and UPC 851789003924.

• Its extras include John Frankenheimer's commentary and another commentary with Paul Seydor, Julie Kirgo and Nick Redman. The original package also has a booklet.

• The 2016 Twilight Time Encore and Kino Lorber's 2024 60th Anniversary Special Edition are later pressings (Encore catalog; Kino catalog). The search excludes those terms, but a generic title still needs a barcode check.

It is a separate audio option for the music, apart from the usual film soundtrack. The catalogs name it for the editions above; the composer and available tracks differ by film.

Does the Twilight Time logo identify the first pressing?

Not by itself. Fright Night and The Train had later Twilight Time editions. Use the original barcode and release details, then follow the edition guide's seller-photo checks.
